This isn’t a post to teach you all about how to troubleshoot your starter, get it active again, or what’s that black liquid at the top? This is a post dedicated to the best sourdough recipes I have made on repeat within my home and have decided that they are top quality and need to be passed on. I’m talking about the printed out recipes that are dirty from all the use over the years- those recipes.
I still remember when a friend handed me a jar of sourdough starter and I never quite understood what to do with it. Mostly a lot of looking at it. Eventually it died and after time passed, I decided to try my own. I ordered my very first dehydrated sourdough starter off of Etsy. This was before it was trendy- I’m taking about pre-COVID… When it was something only homesteaders did.
This starter came with its own recipe, which after a few tries I decided to try an alternate- this alternate is what I still use to this day. This original starter lasted me over a year before it started getting sick and my loaves started to suffer. I moved onto my second dehydrated starter and that one has been with me for many year. My mother even kept it alive for me when we relocated.
Classic Artisan Sourdough Bread
This was my first love with Artisan bread. I can’t think of a loaf thats turned out bad to be honest. It makes 2 full loaves with is terribly convenient to freeze one and eat the other. Hope you love it as much as I do.

Soft White Sourdough Sandwich Bread (or cinnamon bread)
After I had been baking artisan bread faithfully for a couple years, I decided to venture off and find a soft sandwich bread. Think Wonder bread like. While this recipe has more ingredients involved, you do get that light and airy soft texture without the crunchy crust. I alternate between baking these 2 forms of bread.
I usually double the recipe and make 2 loaves. One cinnamon and 1 regular.
For cinnamon bread: When shaping- spread it out into a square as the directions say, but layer it with cinnamon sugar and roll it up. Bake as usual. This cinnamon bread is my daughter’s favorite for breakfast.

French Sourdough Croissants
I have spent the last year perfecting croissants. I specifically focus on making sourdough recipes for the sake of my gluten sensitive daughter. I love that my baker self can still make high quality bakery items that she can easily tolerate. After trying a couple other recipes, I finally found the perfect winner. These may take 3-4 days to make… but it’s worth every moment. Our most recent house guest told my husband it was the best croissant he had ever tasted. This was after they were 3 days old!

Sourdough Buttermilk Waffles (or pancakes)
I’ve shared this recipe on my site before. This is a weekend staple for our family and only requires discard. I have found it to be there perfect recipe for weekend mornings. You prep the sponge the night before to start the fermentation and it’s super simple to finish it up the following morning.

Classic Sourdough Pizza Crust
If we were together I would tell you the full story about the time my husband had to peel paper off of the baked (failed) sourdough pizza crust for the kids to eat by the pool. It was a tedious and memorable event. Following this, my sister started finding an alternative recipe and she nailed it when she found this one.
The recipe only uses discard (a lot of it I will say) and you can bake the day of. This is ideal to make it easy and beginner friendly. The crust is chewy with a crunchy outside. Flavor combos- endless. Enjoy.

Sourdough cinnamon rolls
My favorite food of all time is cinnamon rolls. Christmas Day for us, meant that mom was going to be baking cinnamon rolls- which meant I would probably be eating too many and existing in complete paradise. Over the years I perfected my own cinnamon rolls. However when I changed over to sourdough, I again had to find another to master.
This recipe is easy to make. The dough is so soft. I have never had these turn out poorly on me. Most importantly, these are not too sweet. Obviously you can control the amount of icing. However, the foundation of this recipe is perfectly set on the sweet scale in my option.
Note* I do follow the instructions noted to add more milk and butter to the original recipe

Sourdough Biscuits
The perfect recipe for buttery flaky biscuits. Pair excellent with a bowl of chili or some sausage gravy. Personally, I’m in love with chicken and biscuits and this will be the perfect match for your classic recipe.
